Healthier Alcoholic Drinks

ALCOHOL AND HOW TO AVOID IT BECOMING YOUR ENEMY. HERE ARE SOME TIPS ON THE HEALTHIER ALCOHOLIC DRINKS AND HOW TO AVOID BECOMING ADDICTED!

With the festive season just around  the corner and all of the christmas and new years celebrations about to start it has come to my attention that this time of year is full of so much fun, parties, excitement, celebrations and ALCOHOL.

Alcohol has been enjoyed by the western society for thousands of years for many different reasons and today the biggest reason is to celebrate…… right next to ADDICTION.

It has been said that alcohol does have beneficial benefits and can help lower the rate of experiencing coronary heart disease and raises the level of lipoprotein cholesterol which is the “good cholesterol”.

But don’t be fooled this is only if it is had in moderation and along side of a good balanced diet and life style!

Did you know that there are 2 types of alcohol – NON DISTILLED alcohol and DISTILLED alcohol.

SO WHICH ONE IS THE HEALTHIER ALCOHOL DRINK? WHICH ONE IS BETTER FOR YOU TO HAVE?

Well, you know me! Or you may not know me too well just yet! But if you are struggling with your health or are very conscious of your health and you do not want this festive season to take too much of a toll on your precious body, my advice would be to have the most naturally occurring drink of alcohol if any at all. Is there such a thing as a natural alcoholic drink? Yes…..

Drinks like different types of beer (Coopers is known to be one of the most naturally fermented beers in Australia), wine (organic), cider and sake are all produced through a fermentation process creating a lower alcohol level and a drink that does have some health benefits if not abused and the consumer drinks enough water to help the body detox from the alcohol component of the drink.

So what about the distilled drinks like liquors, Spirits and Cocktails?

Some of these types of alcoholic drinks can have things like different grains, potatoes, berries and many other things in the making of them. The foods become a distilled drink by going  through a distillation process that strips out all of the flavours from the food components to create the clean tasting beverage. These drinks are very high in alcohol content and cause a lot of stress on the human brain. It does not take much to feel the affect of one of these drinks on the brain, causing fast dehydration and killing off brain cells.

There are NO health benefits in drinking a distilled alcoholic drink, but there are many benefits of using them on your skin, in beauty products as a mouth wash and many more external uses are useful.

So if you are wanting to have a drink or 2 and have the least negative affect on your health, try drinking   from the non distilled list above, preferably organic so there is no added preservatives also.

HOW CAN YOU NOT GET CARRIED AWAY AND NOT DRINK TOO MUCH, AND POSSIBLY BECOME ADDICTED?

alcohol
A lot of us can find it difficult to stop drinking once we start. Is this you? Do you just want more and more when you start and find yourself becoming very drunk with no conscious thoughts about it?
Maybe you do have that one conversation with yourself saying “OK just one more and then I’m done” but then before you know it your friend or relative has brought over another drink and its in your hand,or you are pouring yourself another one!

Alcoholism is now considered a psychological disease in the western medicine world…….you can feel like you NEED alcohol just as much if not more than food and water….this is very dangerous for your health! It has been proven that alcoholism runs in families, is caused by high amounts of stress in ones life, anxiety and depression also can steer someone towards alcohol.

At christmas and new years you may be exposed to a lot of alcohol and even see family or friends display behaviour that is or looks alcoholic………this does not mean you have to join them……it can actually be a time you can show them fun and celebration can be had with much less alcohol.

If you are not alcoholic and do not want to end up being one……..

THIS IS A TIME TO TAKE FULL CONTROL AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR HEALTH!

Alcohol can have high sugar content in it which is highly addictive! The affects of being tipsy, light hearted and care free can also be addictive. Even stressful situations that you may have to face at Christmas time may make you drink more so you feel more relaxed whilst there……there are so may reasons we can go over board and can even end up addicted!

So what things can you do that can help you not go over board or even become addicted?

* Have your first alcoholic drink much later in the day or night. Don’t start to drink as soon as you get there.
* Skip the drinks during the day and only have them at the night celebrations.
* Take your own organic beer or wines and label them and make it known to your friends/family that you only want to drink that alcohol.
* Drink the healthier alcoholic drink options.
* Drink much slower than usual.
* Have a glass of water between each drink
* Eat a full meal before you start to drink.
* Be sure to always have AT LEAST 4 alcohol free days per week.
* Set yourself a limit for the occasion such as ‘tonight I only want to have 4 drinks maximum.
* Drink light alcohol content drinks.

*EAT MACADAMIAS! – Macadamias help strengthen and tone the liver. Creating a full feeling in the belly creating less urge to drink.

WHAT YOU CAN DO THE NEXT DAY TO HELP YOUR LIVER DETOX AND HEAL.

OK, so you had a few drinks, you were conscious about it (or not) but you still feel like you would like to assist the liver to recover and heal. Here are some tips on what to do following a night or day of drinking.

* Get to bed earlier every night for at least a week. The liver heals and detoxifies during the night and early hours of the morning. The more you sleep the more you will recover.
* Drink a litre of filtered water with lemon squeezed into it each morning.
* Eat plenty of natural plant based fats foods such as seeds, nuts and especially avocado!
* Take this following live tonic each morning for a week afterwards.

LIVER CLEANSING TONIC

grapefruit
1 Grapefruit juiced
1 Lemon juiced
1 tsp olive oil

Mix all the ingredients together and quickly down the hatch.

Be warned you may feel a little nauseas after taking this and it may make you ‘go’ to the toilet within the next couple of hours.

The vitamin c content in this tonic helps treat and prevent liver damage/disease. The olive oil is in it to help the bile flow to help release toxic build up in the liver.

There are so may reasons to not over do it this year. You may have had big year of working on your health and made some fantastic progress, you may be still trying to heal, you may have kids that are watching your every move or may be keeping a tight budget. What ever the reason you feel may be your reason, hold onto it, value your goals and true desires and stay conscious with your choices.

Enjoy your festive season!

Much love
