Epsom salt baths can become your next ‘not so expensive’ indulgence! When you want a quiet, relaxing moment, just pour yourself an Epsom salt bath, lock the bathroom door, turn down the lights, and put on your favourite music… sink in… and … soak…..soak away the stresses and fast paced thoughts and movements of the day.
Epsom salt baths don’t just calm the busy, busy body, they improve health as well!
Epsom salt is actually magnesium sulphate. It’s called “Epsom” because magnesium sulphate was discovered in a place called Epsom, in England. So many of us today are finding that we are magnesium deficient and this is leading us to a list of health problems.
Epsom salt baths can be another natural remedy to help us combat that deficiency and improve our health…..and what better way to do this than to relax!
Correcting magnesium deficiency can lead to:
- Better absorption of nutrients.
- Prevention or relief of migraine headaches.
- Healthier nerve function by electrolyte regulation.
- Relieved stress. Excess adrenaline and stress are believed to drain magnesium, a natural stress reliever, from the body.
- Reduced inflammation to relieve pain and muscle cramps.
- Flushed out toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances.
- Improved nerve function by electrolyte regulation. Also, calcium is the main conductor for electrical current in the body, and magnesium is necessary to maintain proper calcium levels in the blood.
HOW TO USE YOUR EPSOM SALT
Time To Relax Your Body
When Epsom salts are dissolved in warm water they are easily absorbed through our skin. They instantly go to work inside our bodies once absorbed. The magnesium ions break apart from Epsom salt molecules and begin to relieve stress, by promoting the production of serotonin and reducing the effects of adrenaline, bringing a sense of calm instantly to our body.
Exfoliate Your Skin
You can remove dead cells by rubbing a handful of Epsom salts over moistened skin. This process helps your skin to look healthier, clearer and feel smoother. This can be used on hands, feet, and all over the body.
Soothe Sprains and Bruises
Epsom salts can be used as an anti-inflammatory to relieve the soreness from sprains and bruises. Simply add two cups of salts to your warm bath water and soak away the ache.
Muscle and Nerve Health
Aside from relieving tension, pain, and cramping, has several other positive effects on the human body. Magnesium sulphate in many enzymatic functions, helps to regulate fluid retention in cells, and facilitates the body’s use of calcium to transmit chemical signals throughout the nervous system.

Epsom salt is known to be used as a laxative. Dissolve two tablespoons of Epsom salts into a cup of warm water and drink. This remedy should not be used more than once per day. If constipation persists for more than a few days, it is recommended to consult with a physician and to not rely on the daily use of a laxative.
